Tina Louise, Icon of “Gilligan’s Island,” Seen in Public After Years
Tina Louise, renowned for her role as Ginger Grant on the beloved CBS show “Gilligan’s Island,” was recently seen in public on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, marking her first public appearance in several years.
She was last seen at the New York Film Festival in 2022, and her recent outing was a rare occasion. Dressed casually in a black leather jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers, the 91-year-old actress looked vibrant and youthful.
As the sole surviving member of the “Gilligan’s Island” cast following the deaths of co-stars Bob Denver, Dawn Wells, and Alan Hale Jr., Louise expressed to the New York Times her desire to be remembered for more than just her iconic role. Last March, she stated, “I appreciate everything that has come my way, but I hope to be remembered for more than just Ginger Grant.”
Post-“Gilligan’s Island,” Louise enjoyed a series of roles in various films. Although her appearances have become increasingly sparse, she has been part of notable projects like Robert Altman’s 1987 comedy “O.C. and Stiggs” and the 1991 drama “Johnny Suede” with Brad Pitt and Catherine Keener.
Her most recent film roles include a part in the 2014 movie “Late Phases,” which premiered at South By Southwest, and the 2019 film “Tapestry.”
These days, Tina Louise dedicates much of her time to her family, particularly her daughter Caprice Crane, who has forged a successful career as a TV producer and novelist, and her two grandchildren. Speaking to Forbes in March, Louise shared, “Having a child was incredible, especially since my own childhood was quite unorthodox. Raising her was a delight, and now, watching my twin grandchildren grow up is my greatest joy. They are my absolute priority.”
