Emmy-nominated musician and songwriter Gabe Lopez, who was widely recognized for his contributions to RuPaul’s Drag Race, passed away on Sunday after what his family described as a brief but intense struggle with lymphoma.

His mother, Connie Howard, announced his death on Monday via her son’s Instagram account. In the post she said that Gabe lost his fight with lymphoma on the afternoon of January 25, 2026, and described him as loving, talented, funny and kind.

According to the Mayo Clinic, lymphoma is a form of cancer that targets the lymphatic system and can involve lymph nodes as well as blood, bone marrow, the spleen and other tissues throughout the body.

Howard wrote that the family is devastated by the loss and cannot imagine life without Gabe’s joy, laughter and generous spirit. She noted how many people loved him and asked that everyone hold on to the happy memories they shared with him.
