A man has died after being struck by a vehicle on the A75 in Dumfries in the early hours of Sunday, 3 May 2026, in a crash that has left the carriageway closed while police investigate. The collision, and a subsequent crash involving the car and a lorry, is prompting appeals for witnesses and dash‑cam footage.
What happened
Emergency services were called to the stretch of the A75 between the Lockerbie Road roundabout and the turn for the A701 at about 3am. Officers arrived after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a silver Ford Fiesta.
The Fiesta was later involved in a separate collision with a silver lorry travelling the opposite way. Paramedics attended and a man, described by police as 43 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
No other serious injuries have been reported, but the road has remained closed while officers carry out inquiries and the carriageway is repaired. Drivers in the area should expect delays and diversion routes while the closure remains in place.
Police appeal
Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said police are continuing their enquiries and urged anyone with information to come forward. He expressed sympathy for the family and asked witnesses to speak to officers to help establish the full circumstances of the collision.
Officers specifically requested that motorists who were driving nearby at the time check any dash‑cam or vehicle camera footage for material that could assist the investigation.
