A veteran female news anchor, renowned for her long tenure on national TV, has announced her departure.
Deborah Norville, the familiar face of CBS’s Inside Edition, revealed that after three decades of hosting, she is concluding her journey with the show. This announcement was made on Wednesday, marking the end of an era.
“Serving at Inside for so many years has truly been both a privilege and an honor,” Norville stated. “Reaching this milestone has prompted some reflection, and after careful thought, I have decided it’s time for me to explore new endeavors beyond Inside Edition.”
At 66, Norville, who joined the program in 1995, plans to retire by the close of the current season of Inside Edition. Despite receiving a generous proposal from CBS to continue, she expressed a desire for new experiences and opportunities that her role at Inside Edition cannot accommodate.
“There are some exciting projects ahead that I’ll share about in due time,” she continued. “But for now, I want to express my deep appreciation for having had the opportunity to be a part of Inside Edition, working alongside an incredibly gifted team, and being welcomed into your homes daily. It’s a privilege that I have always greatly valued.”
While staying on as host might have been the simpler choice, Norville admitted that stepping away felt like the “right decision” for her personal and professional growth.
Previously, Norville had a successful stint on the Today Show in 1989, where she earned an Emmy. Following a maternity leave, during which Katie Couric filled in for her, she joined CBS News in 1992 and secured another Emmy in 1994 for her contributions to 48 Hours.
Looking ahead, Norville is set to host a new CBS game show titled The Perfect Line, slated to premiere this fall.
