Get ready for a financial boost Alaskans! The last round of the yearly payments from Alaska's Permanent Fund will be landing in your bank accounts soon.
Every year, the majority of tax-paying Alaskans are entitled to receive a check from the Permanent Fund Dividend. The funds are then distributed to the residents annually. This year, the checks stand at a substantial ,312, although, this varies per annum.
Payment Schedule
The first round of checks was dispatched on January 18, swiftly followed by the second round on February 15. For those with Eligible-Not Paid status applications on March 14, they can expect their check on March 21.
Eligibility Criteria
If you're hoping for a piece of the pie, there are a few boxes you must tick:
- Be a legal resident of Alaska
- Physically present in Alaska for the majority of the year
- No felony convictions
Applications for the 2024 checks are already open, and you have till March 31 to apply, with payments set to arrive in October.
Exciting news in the pipeline: Governor Mike Dunleavy is proposing to triple the check amount to an impressive ,000 per person.
Additional Financial Aid
Don't forget there's another financial aid being offered: the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) from the IRS. This program helps cover expenses for eligible students and offers an annual credit of ,500 per person.
What's more? If this credit pulls your taxes down to a big zero, 40% of the remaining value can be refunded, up to ,000. However, to be eligible for the AOTC, there are a few conditions:
- Pursuing a degree or other recognized education credential
- Enrolled for at least one academic period during the tax year
- Not have completed the first four years of higher education at the beginning of the tax year
- Not have claimed the AOTC for more than four tax years
- No felony drug conviction at the end of the tax year
- Modified adjusted gross income must be ,000 or less, or ,000 or less for married couples filing jointly
Rescue Payment Program
To top it all off, a ,000 pot has been set aside for rescue payments. This program offers up to ,000 in financial aid to those in need.
