Rock Legend Reveals Battle With Advanced Kidney Cancer: Shares Health Struggles

By Emily Anderson

A famous musician, celebrated for his performances in the late 20th century, has provided an update on his health that is both serious and optimistic.

Mark Kendall, the guitarist for the rock group Great White, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer. He received this diagnosis earlier in 2025 and chose to keep his health status private while gaining a better understanding of his prognosis.

Despite the grave nature of his illness, Kendall has observed some encouraging developments during his treatment. He is optimistic about managing his condition effectively moving forward.

“Hello Friends! Just wanted everyone to know I was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer a few months ago,” Kendall revealed on his Facebook page. “I decided to keep this private initially until I had more clarity about the situation. I’m pleased to report that my tumor has reduced from 13 centimeters to 8 after my first scan. While there’s no cure for cancer, what I’m dealing with is controllable. I am in the care of some of the finest doctors, including one who pioneered Immunotherapy, which is the treatment I’m currently undergoing.

“Fortunately, I only needed three radiation treatments, which is positive news! To be clear, I am not seeking financial assistance, but I would greatly appreciate your prayers and encouragement! [smile emoji, thumbs up emoji] I’m determined to fight this and I will be okay. I’ve met people in my support group who were diagnosed with the same condition up to 20 years ago, and they are still fighting, which gives me hope! Blessings All!”

Since its formation (apart from a brief period in 2000), Kendall has been a key member of Great White, contributing to the band’s most successful albums, including 1987’s Once Bitten and 1989’s …Twice Shy. His guitar work shines in iconic tracks such as “Rock Me,” “House of Broken Love,” “Call It Rock N’ Roll,” and the band’s rendition of Ian Hunter’s “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.”

Best wishes to Kendall as he continues his treatment!
