Originally from Bellshill, Zia Yusuf stepped down, stating that striving for a Reform Government election was not a “worthwhile use of his time”.
The chairman of Reform UK has stepped down, announcing that his efforts to lead the party to electoral success were no longer “a worthwhile use of his time”.
The resignation of Zia Yusuf followed an incident where he labeled a query by the party’s latest MP to the Prime Minister about a burka ban as “dumb”.
Yusuf’s departure coincided with the Hamilton, Larkhall, and Stonehouse by-election for Holyrood.
He declared his resignation on a Thursday afternoon, stating: “Eleven months ago, I accepted the role of chairman at Reform. I dedicated myself full-time as a volunteer to elevate the party’s support from 14 to 30%, quadrupling its membership and achieving unprecedented electoral successes.
“I have now concluded that continuing efforts to secure a Reform government is not a worthwhile use of my time, and I am therefore stepping down from my position.”

Earlier, he had publicly criticized the party’s new MP, Sarah Pochin, for her question to Sir Keir Starmer during Prime Minister’s Questions on whether he supported a ban on burkas, a stance apparently not endorsed by Reform itself.
Yusuf remarked on social media regarding the question: “It has nothing to do with me. I was unaware of the question and that it was not aligned with our policies. I was preoccupied with other matters.
“I believe it’s unwise for a party to ask the PM about implementing something that the party itself wouldn’t consider.”
A Labour spokesperson commented: “Nigel Farage might manage to fit all his MPs into a single taxi, yet he seems unable to prevent them from internal conflicts.
“Reform only promises more turmoil akin to that under Liz Truss. Their £80 billion in unfunded pledges would precipitate an economic disaster, hiking everyone’s mortgage and bills. They simply lack credibility.”
