Thomas Crown’s Latest Adventure Faces Early Challenges
Thomas Crown’s newest adventure has hit some early snags. In March, Michael B. Jordan unveiled his project following Sinners: a new version of the beloved romantic heist movie The Thomas Crown Affair. In this remake, Jordan is set to portray the cunning thief Thomas Crown, with Taylor Russell (Bones and All) originally cast as the detective determined to apprehend him, who also becomes his romantic interest.
However, last Friday brought unexpected news when Russell departed from the project, casting uncertainty over the film’s progress.
Despite the setback, it appears that the production has quickly recovered, or perhaps Jordan is embodying the agility of his character, the expert thief.
It was recently confirmed that Adria Arjona, known for her role in Andor, will step into the vacant role left by Russell.
Arjona joins an impressive ensemble cast that includes not only Jordan, but also Kenneth Branagh (Oppenheimer), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones).
The role of the investigator initially played by Russell was highly sought after, attracting interest from actresses globally, likely influenced by the success of the previous Thomas Crown films. These earlier versions helped elevate their leading ladies—Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo—to top-tier Hollywood status.
The original Thomas Crown Affair, which won an Oscar, was released in 1968 and featured Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. Its remake came in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, and both versions received critical and commercial success.
Michael B. Jordan’s fresh take on The Thomas Crown Affair is anticipated to premiere on March 5, 2027, under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios.
