Scottish Labour has announced the suspension of longtime MSP Colin Smyth.
Colin Smyth, a Labour MSP, has been officially suspended by his party.
Following this suspension, he is now represented as an independent on the official Holyrood website.
Smyth, who formerly served as a councillor in Dumfries, first took office in Holyrood as an MSP in the 2016 elections, having been elected from the South Scotland regional list.
From 2017 to 2021, under the leadership of Richard Leonard, he held the position of Scottish Labour’s spokesman for transport. After Anas Sarwar took over the leadership from Leonard, Smyth was appointed as the spokesman for the constitution and external affairs.
In addition, Smyth has served as the general secretary of Scottish Labour in the past.
