Kelly Clarkson hints at a comeback to The Voice: announces departure from talk show

Kelly Clarkson hinted at what’s next for her television career as she announced on Monday that The Kelly Clarkson Show will end after its current seventh season.

The Grammy-winning artist said she plans to pop up on NBC’s The Voice “from time to time” while outlining her plans after leaving daytime television.

Clarkson — who last served as a coach during Season 23 of The Voice and is scheduled to return for the show’s upcoming 29th season — explained in her Monday message that she decided to wrap up her talk show in order to “prioritize [her] kids” following the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock, last year from cancer.

Expressing gratitude to the “outstanding group of people” behind her program, Clarkson reflected on her run since the show launched in 2019, noting that the seven seasons brought “so many amazing moments and shows.”

The singer, known for hits like “Breakaway,” acknowledged that stepping away was a difficult choice, but said that removing the demands of a daily schedule will let her focus on her children, which she described as the right move for the next chapter of their lives.

She reassured viewers that this move does not mean she’s disappearing: Clarkson said she will continue creating music, play concerts occasionally, and make periodic appearances on The Voice.

“You never know where I might show up next,” she added, thanking audiences for welcoming the program into their lives and for their support over seven memorable years.

Clarkson is set to join Season 29 of The Voice, titled The Voice: Battle of Champions, where she’ll be reunited with fellow all-star coaches Adam Levine and John Legend.

The special edition, which premieres Feb. 23 on NBC, introduces a revamped, faster-paced format designed to heighten the competition and raise the stakes for both coaches and performers.

Unlike the typical four-coach lineup, this installment will feature three coaches and proceed through several stages — Blind Auditions, Battles, Knockouts, Semi-Finals and Finals — with each coach assembling a team of 10 singers.

The Voice: Battle of Champions debuts Feb. 23 on NBC.
