Jordan Gray: arrest made after fatal Motherwell shooting

By Benjamin Harrison

A 30-year-old man was re-arrested on Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Jordan Gray at his home in Motherwell, Police Scotland said. The renewed custody follows the execution of a warrant and the suspect is due before Hamilton Sheriff Court the next day, keeping the case at the centre of a community still reeling from the death.

Gray was found with fatal gunshot injuries at his flat in Shields Court shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday 14 December 2025. Police have been treating the incident as a murder since the scene was first examined.

Officers previously arrested a 58-year-old man, identified in court papers as Robert Clark, on 12 March. Clark was charged with murder and with having a firearm in a public place; he made no plea and was remanded in custody.

The man now re-arrested was first detained on 12 March but released while inquiries continued. He was taken into custody again on 21 April after police executed a warrant and will appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on 22 April.

Local reaction included floral tributes left against the police cordon and public shock at the death of a young father. Claire Kerr, the mother of Gray’s newborn son, described her grief publicly, saying she would “always tell your son all about you and how much you loved him.”

A Police Scotland statement confirmed the timeline of arrests and reiterated that inquiries are ongoing. They said Gray “suffered fatal firearm wounds within his home” and set out the dates of the subsequent police activity and court appearances.

The investigation remains active and the upcoming court hearings will determine whether further charges are brought. The re-arrest underlines that detectives continue to follow lines of inquiry more than four months after the December death, as the community awaits clarity and the criminal process unfolds.
