Jack Osbourne’s Unexpected MTV Comeback: VMAs Pay Tribute to Rock Legend Ozzy

By Emily Anderson

During the MTV Video Music Awards held on a Sunday in 2025, Jack Osbourne paid tribute to his father, Ozzy Osbourne, who had passed away nearly two months earlier. Ozzy, a legendary figure from the band Black Sabbath, was commemorated by his youngest son Jack, who is shared with his wife Sharon Osbourne.

Jack, alongside his four daughters, participated through a pre-recorded video to initiate the homage to his father.

“I wish we could join you in commemorating my father’s remarkable career in music,” Jack, aged 39, expressed in the video. “He would have been overjoyed to see these talented musicians advancing his legacy and motivating future rock enthusiasts.”

The video concluded with Jack saying, “We love you Dad,” followed by his children exclaiming, “In the words of our Papa, ‘Let’s go crazy!’”

The stage then saw performances by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, alongside Yungblud and Nuno Bettencourt, who played a medley of Ozzy’s most famous tracks. Yungblud opened with his version of “Crazy Train,” paying homage by kissing a cross necklace given to him by Ozzy.

Following that, Yungblud delivered a rendition of “Changes,” a track he has been performing in tribute to Ozzy on his tour since the rocker’s demise in July. Tyler and Perry then joined for “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” with Yungblud returning to conclude the tribute, proclaiming “Ozzy forever!”

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at 76 years old, after a protracted fight with Parkinson’s disease. His death occurred shortly after a nostalgic reunion concert with his Black Sabbath bandmates in Birmingham, England, his birthplace.

“With profound sadness beyond words, we announce the passing of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne this morning,” the Osbourne family stated posthumously. “He departed surrounded by his family and love. We request privacy for our family during this time,” they added.

On a recent YouTube video dated Thursday, September 4, Jack Osbourne shared his feelings about his father’s passing. “There’s a mix of sadness, frustration, and anger,” he remarked. He added, “But there’s also relief that he’s no longer suffering or struggling. I dearly wish he was still here, but his final days were visibly tough, and I think that was apparent to those at the concert.”
