A chilling knife attack occurred in Amsterdam, resulting in several injuries after a man reportedly embarked on a stabbing spree.

The incident took place in Dam Square on March 27, where multiple individuals suffered stab wounds in a frightening assault.

An eyewitness described hearing a chilling scream just before chaos erupted this afternoon. The police have reported that at least five individuals were injured in the attack, prompting a swift response from numerous police units, ambulances, and an air ambulance to the scene.

Furthermore, a store employee recounted hearing loud shouts and screams, followed by people rushing towards the scene of the incident, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, had to withdraw from a council debate due to the unfolding situation, as reported by local media. The police have confirmed injuries to at least five people.

Authorities have detained a man in connection with the stabbings, although his motives remain unclear at this stage.

Amsterdam Police shared via social media: “In a stabbing incident at the Sint Nicolaasstraat close to Dam Square, five individuals were injured. One suspect has been taken into custody.”

Photographs from the scene depict several emergency service vehicles surrounded by crowds, with a yellow helicopter in proximity.

A substantial police perimeter has now been established around the area. This incident comes shortly after over 10,000 individuals gathered in Dam Square for a large-scale protest against racism and fascism.

Protesters displayed banners with messages such as “Never Again” and “Fact or Faber?”. The protest was organized by Comité 21 Maart, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Previously, the square also hosted a large celebration marking the 125th anniversary of the Amsterdam football club Ajax, as announced by AFCA Supportersclub and F-Side on X.

The announcement stated: “It is almost party time! On Tuesday, March 18, it will be 125 years since Ajax was founded. This historic event took place at the start of the Kalverstraat, close to the Dam.”
