In a saddening event late last month, the iconic rock musician Gary “Mani” Mounfield passed away at the age of 63.
His death was made public through a Facebook post by his brother, who did not specify the cause at that time.
Recent updates from the Manchester Evening News reveal that Mounfield died peacefully in his sleep from complications related to emphysema, a lung condition he had been battling for many years.
The local police reviewed the circumstances of his death and declared them to be “non-suspicious.” Consequently, they saw no need for a coroner’s intervention. His family also confirmed that he passed away overnight, the news outlet reported.
Mounfield was a renowned bass guitarist from England who left school at the age of 16 to become a member of The Stone Roses. Their debut album quickly became a monumental success and is now revered as one of the top British rock albums ever produced.
The band reunited briefly in 2013 and performed at the Coachella festival that year, marking a significant moment in their history.
“IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD,” his brother stated in the Facebook post that broke the news of his death. “RIP RKID.”
His passing was a significant loss felt across the rock music community, with tributes pouring in from many, including Oasis’s lead singer, Liam Gallagher.
“IN TOTAL SHOCK AND ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED ON HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT MANI MY HERO RIP RKID LG,” Gallagher expressed on Twitter/X.
Mounfield is survived by his two sons.
