A veteran performer whose career spanned decades on stage, screen and television has passed away.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Enayatollah Bakhshi died earlier this month at the age of 80. The report says he died while hospitalized but does not name the hospital or provide the exact date of his death.

IRNA noted that Bakhshi — who rose to prominence in cinema during the 1970s — had been battling several health problems and an infection, which resulted in a hospital stay lasting about two months prior to his death.

Across a long filmography, Bakhshi appeared in numerous notable Iranian films, including The Deer, Slaughterhouse, The Honour, The Legacy, Senator, Fist, Travellers, Killing Mad Dogs, Tangna, Tangsir and his first screen appearance, Mr. Naive (also released as Mr. Gullible).

He was also a familiar face on Iranian television, with credits that include Imam Ali, The Enigma of the Shah, Velayat-e Eshgh, Kalantar, Bar Sar-e Dorahi, Pahlevanan Nemimirand, All That Is, Tabriz in Fog and A Piece of Land.
