A game show host recently described a heated encounter that ended with a neighbor phoning the police.
Austin Show, who fronts the game programs Name Your Price and Love or Host, recounted a Labor Day spat with a hostile neighbor on his podcast Fear&. Show explained that he held an afternoon pool gathering at his Los Angeles residence over the holiday weekend, and the party drew the ire of the person next door, who he only referred to as “Steve.”
According to Show, “Steve” was roaming the neighborhood complaining about the daytime pool event — even though the town’s noise restrictions apply from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and the party was well inside lawful hours. When Show learned his neighbor was stirring trouble, he went outside to confront him; the two had a history of disagreements.
Show described the neighbor as visibly furious, marching over with anger written on his face. The host said he opened the conversation by asking whether there was going to be a problem, and “Steve” replied that while there might not be an issue between them, he had already called the police.
The exchange escalated from there. Show was upset that the neighbor had phoned law enforcement before attempting to speak with him directly — something they had handled face-to-face in past noise disputes. Growing frustrated, the game show host shut the discussion down.
Show told the neighbor he intended to continue the party until 8 p.m. and that there was nothing “Steve” could do about it, adding that if he didn’t like it he could move and that he would do as he pleased in his own backyard — then invited him to call the police.
Despite the call to the LAPD, Show said the situation ended in his favor: he claims the officers never arrived. “He called the police,” Show recounted on the podcast, “and they didn’t show up.”
This account represents one side of the incident, and it may seem extreme to involve police over a daytime holiday pool party. On Fear&, co-host Will Neff weighed in on the story, bluntly saying that the neighbor was in the wrong.
