WORKSHOP MEETING
MINUTES
February 7, 2007
The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners met in a workshop session on February 7, 2007, at the Sherburne County Government Center in the City of Elk River. Commissioner Engstrom was absent. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Petersen/Schmiesing unanimous to approve the agenda for February 7, 2007 as presented.
Tim Edgeton, Forester, and members of the Park Commission were present to provide an update on the progress of Park Commission projects. Those present introduced themselves as follows: Tim Edgeton, Forester, Norm Leslie, Big Lake Township, Laura Gibson, Orrock Township, Mark Ahlness, Elk River Parks & Recreation Department, Nancy Riddle, Zoning Administrator, Derald Ewing, District 2, Roger Johnson, Palmer Township, Dr. C. Perry Schenk, District 4, Commissioner Riebel, Commissioner Leonard, Commissioner Petersen, Commissioner Schmiesing, Brian Bensen, Administrator, Luci Botzek, Deputy Administrator, Kathleen Heaney, County Attorney. A Power Point Presentation reviewing the following Goals and Objectives identified by the Park Commission was shown: Improve Awareness of Parks; Enhance Experience within the Parks; Develop and Implement Park Management Plans; Seek Funding opportunities; Plan for the Future. The improvements made at Bridgeview, Oak Savanna and Grams Regional Park during 2006 were reviewed. The progress on the Xcel and Great Northern Trail projects were also reviewed.
Janna King, Economic Development Services, was present to provide an update on the Fairgrounds Business Plan. Those present introduced themselves as follows: Carol Iten, Fair Board, Lynn George, Central Services Coordinator, Luci Botzek, Deputy Administrator, Brian Bensen, Administrator, Commissioner Schmiesing, Commissioner Leonard, Commission Petersen, Commissioner Riebel, Phil Knutson, City of Becker, Kevin Rieland, City of Becker, Kelli Neu, City of Becker, Mark Ahlness, Elk River Parks and Recreation Department, Chrissy Anderson, Administrative Assistant, Patti Hetrick, Budget Director, and Chris Stalpes, Becker/Big Lake Hockey Association. A Powerpoint Presentation was shown identifying recommendations regarding development and/or disposition of the Elk River Site, strategies and partnerships to enhance the Becker site and facilities, and strategies to minimize negative impacts of relocation. The Board discussed the different options available and directed staff to bring this back to a future workshop meeting for further discussion.
Schmiesing/Petersen unanimous to adjourn the meeting at 12:30 p.m.
